From very different perspectives, we seem to be a collection of citizens dedicated to the perceived benefit of ourselves, don’t we? The concepts of “no responsibility to others,” “no obligations” and “no debt,” are popular, but mean different things to different people within our society. Many of us seem to have subscribed to a “new world order” point of view that champions a ‘spiritual but not religious, inclusive but individualist’ point of view.
These modern behavior models have little in common with the traits of strength, self-reliance, charity and pursuit of opportunity that were basic to the philosophy of our Founding Fathers. Utilizing their collective brilliance, these men combined these characteristics with their consideration for the beliefs of others to meld the foundation for America. However, they had one position in common: the belief that our rights come from God.
A contemporary view is that our rights come solely from within us. From that huge divergence of thought evolved a segment of our society that is sometimes called “secular progressive.” Dangerous, negative schools of thought have diluted the principles upon which we have historically relied.
Two symptoms of this decline are:
[1] The intentional demolition of the Constitution via the dismantling of lawful governmental principle. To secular progressives, the civic pillar known as “the rule of law” is obsolete. Thus, we have activities based on the premise that the Constitution is a “living document,” and an accelerated effort from the judicial and executive branches of government to illegally change it. The founders did indeed expect the Constitution to be altered, as evidenced by their creation of the amendment process and their addition of the first ten. They did NOT foresee or intend for it to be changed by the decisions of judges or presidents simply because they did not agree with it. One of the purposes of the Constitution is to prevent exactly that kind of governmental control/abuse. Constitutional changes ultimately are supposed to be in the hands of the people.
[2] The deterioration of basic civil behavior. This calamity can be seen everywhere, from the cowardly, deceptive traits of members of government, the amateurish and biased media to our own loutish, intolerant interactions. The way we the people categorize that which is socially appropriate has been a “slippery slope” for quite some time. No better example exists than that which is identified as humor, which has taken on characteristics more akin to a cesspool than comedy. It appears that if jokes, screenplays or other discourses do not involve cursing, sex or bodily functions they are no longer funny. Timing, wit, double entendre, the squelch and innocent slap-stick are long gone. Hopefully, that slippery slope has reached bottom and real humor will make a come-back.
Every societal element and every person needs to change. Without responsible and civil discussion change cannot occur. We must replace those who subscribe to the pathetic atmosphere prevalent today. Change is the only constant and change can be positive!
Here are some changes that The Liberty Cell would like to see:
[1] A return to the values that got us here, especially regarding fiscal responsibility. The whole country is heading to Detroit. We can't continue to help the poor if we are broke. We clearly need an equitable tax system but only "taxing the rich" will simply not get it done. That can be mathematically shown and the rich are paying the large majority of taxes now, anyway. The present national tendencies will cause us to devolve into a country where most or all of the "rich" will be government officials, just like that which has already occurred over and over again throughout the world. Then, what becomes of "the American Dream?"
[2] National discussions on the issues that are based on their validity (the truth), rather than "spin," deflection, stone-walling and personal attack.
[3] The true enforcement of existing laws in all areas (especially the penalty phases), including immigration, gun laws, laws relating to fraud in business practices and especially in financial areas. Changes in those laws should be passed, if necessary, to put thieves of all description at all levels in jail. President Obama correctly stated that some of the crooked activities of financial institutions that caused the recession [along with stupid governmental policies] may not have even been illegal.
[4] Term limits, at least for national elected offices. We must be led by the "citizen legislators" that the founders envisioned.
Our government is a bipartisan farce made up mostly of small-minded greedy crooks, lapdogs, cowards and demigods. It is also a reflection of the sheepish people it represents. We need to change all that.
